Recently down in Japan we’ve had a crazy few weeks again with weekend work and events – but we’ve got another theme covered and here it is! This week we recreated an existing Book, Game or Movie cover in our own style.

I am Iron Man!
Quintessentially a superhero cover with floating heads, flames, a badass Iron Monger, fighter jets and a pretty lady in the form of Gweneth Paltrow.
I liked the dramatic composition of Iron Man’s faceplate with the 3 characters placed diagonally.
The ominous shadow plays off the three faces nicely too.
Next time I would like to add netalic white highlights to Iron Man, sorry bud.

I decided to recreate the cover of Memoirs of a Geisha – the book version! Since I have been living in Japan, I have been able to experience so many beautiful shrines and natural environments, it seemed only natural to choose a piece that would relate to the things I have been seeing.
I really enjoyed making this piece. I used references from our trip to Kyoto earlier in the year, and practiced using a mixed media style again. I really enjoyed recreating this book and tried to capture the essence of the story – I hope that air of mystery and beauty shows through.
